Carl sat in the restaurant for several minutes after Frank left. Did he really just agree to let Amy go off with him as his “assistant” for 6 months?? What was Amy going to say??
When he got home Amy was waiting at the front door, anxious to hear about the meeting. Carl walked right by her and straight to the bottle of crown royal. He gulped down one shot and then another before turning to Amy. “He’s offered to give us the farm back” he said. “Oh Carl, that’s great!! But why?” Carl took another shot and told her. “He wants you to go work for him as his personal assistant for 6 months. At the end he’ll turn the deed over to us”. Amy couldn’t believe what she just heard. Her husband of 15 years wanted her to go work for a man she’s never met just to get the farm back? “What am I going to be doing she asked?” “Probably just answering the phone, getting coffee, you know, mundane things.”
“What were you thinking” she yelled. “No way I’m doing this.” “But honey, I’ve already agreed to it. How hard can it be? We’ll have the farm back in no time.” She started thinking that maybe it wouldn’t be that bad. How hard can it be to be an assistant? “Alright”, she said, “I’ll sleep on it”. Carl took a deep breath and said “ you need to be ready to go at 9 am. A car will be here for you.” She looked at him with a shocked expression, slowly shook her head and went to pack. Carl didn’t want to push his luck so he didn’t mention she wouldn’t have her phone.
The next morning at 9 am sharp a long black limo pulled up to pick her up. As the driver loaded her bags she got in the car, never looking at Carl. This was all his doing.
After driving for several hours they finally stopped at a mansion on the outskirts of town. Someone came outside and told her he would take her to see her new boss and that the driver would take care of her bags. Once she was inside the driver pulled around back, out of sight and threw her bags in the trash…after all, she wasn’t going to be needing them.
Inside the maid led her to a large office on the second floor. She nodded at the door and told her”Master is expecting you”. With a lump in her throat she opened the door and walked up to Franks desk. He didn’t look up from what he was doing for several minutes and Amy started to get nervous. Finally he looked up and introduced himself and said they had a lot to discuss.
